Vienna Airport to Bratislava: Buses, Trains and Your Luggage

Schwechat is effectively Bratislava's second airport — 50 km away with direct buses running all day. Here's how to make the hop, and what to do with your bags on either end.

Option 1: direct bus (the default)

Slovak Lines and FlixBus run direct coaches between Vienna Airport and Bratislava throughout the day. The ride takes roughly 40-60 minutes; booked ahead, fares start around €5-8. Coaches have Wi-Fi and luggage holds — a big suitcase travels free in the hold.

Most buses terminate at Stanica Nivy, the underground bus station beneath the Nivy shopping centre, a 15-minute walk from the Old Town. Check your specific departure — stops and schedules change, so book on the operator's site.

Option 2: train via Vienna

Take the airport train into Vienna and connect to a Bratislava-bound train, arriving at Bratislava hlavná stanica (main station). It's slower overall than the direct bus but useful if you're combining the trip with a Vienna stop.

Where to store luggage on arrival

Arriving at Stanica Nivy (bus)

Radical Storage sits minutes from the terminal, open 06:00–23:00, €5/day per bag with €3,000 insurance. Full guide: Nivy bus station storage.

Arriving at the main station (train)

Radical Storage in a café by the station at €5/day (08:00–22:00, insured) and a Bounce partner open 24/7 at €5.95/day, both booked online. Full guide: main station storage.

Flying out of Vienna late? Store your bags in Bratislava for the day (from €2.50), see the city hands-free, and catch an evening coach back to Schwechat — they run until late. Just leave a comfortable buffer for airport security.

FAQ

How often do the buses run?

Roughly hourly through the day, more at peaks. Check Slovak Lines or FlixBus for the live timetable — don't rely on turn-up-and-go for a flight.

Does the bus take big luggage?

Yes, in the hold. On arrival, size isn't an issue either: Bounce and Radical Storage charge per item, so a 28" suitcase costs the same as a backpack. See oversized luggage in Bratislava.

What does storage cost in Bratislava?

€2.50-5.95 per day for a normal bag. Full comparison: Bratislava storage prices.
