One Day in Bratislava: Itinerary Without Your Luggage
Bratislava is one of the best one-day cities in Europe — compact, walkable, cheap. The only thing that ruins it is a suitcase. Here's the loop we'd walk, starting with where to put your bags.
Step 0: Drop your bags (first 20 minutes)

Morning: the Old Town loop
Start at Michael's Gate, the last preserved medieval gate, and walk down Michalská and Ventúrska — the prettiest streets in the city. Continue to the Main Square (Hlavné námestie) with the Old Town Hall, then cut across to the Primate's Palace with its Hall of Mirrors.
From there it's a few minutes to St Martin's Cathedral, the coronation church of Hungarian kings — 19 coronations happened here. The gold crown replica on top of the spire is the giveaway.
Midday: up to the Castle
From the cathedral, cross under the SNP Bridge approach and climb Zámocká street to Bratislava Castle. The walk up takes about 15 minutes; the castle grounds are free to enter and the view over the Danube — with Petržalka's panel blocks on the far bank and Austria on the horizon — is the best in town. Afternoon: the Danube bank
Walk down from the castle to the river and along the promenade towards the UFO tower on the SNP Bridge — you can ride up to the observation deck. Then follow the embankment east past the Slovak National Gallery to Eurovea, the riverside mall and promenade, for a coffee or an early dinner with a river view.
Evening: collect and go
Mind the closing times. The ZSSK manned storage at the station closes around 20:00 — if your train or bus leaves later, make sure your bag is in a 24/7 spot (station coin lockers, the 24/7 Bounce partner, Obchodná 9 or Stanica Nivy). From the Old Town it's a 15-minute walk or a short trolleybus ride back to the main station.
